Presentation; Pre-preparation

Brainstorm five possible media texts you could choose as your presentation subject. (The platform can be TV, film, print, online).

The 3 media texts that I would choose to do would be...

Music

• Well known artists could help influence society.
• A certain topic could be used such as racism and war in order to raise controversy.
• Young people may look up to well known musicians such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, Eminem, Tupac, Jay-Z etc.
• Technology has changed music as newer programming such as Cubase can be used in order to make new beats helping musicians make progress within their work in order to sell records.
• Many people in this world believe that music is very important and that it would be a very boring world to live in if there was no music. For most artists, music is how it expresses them and allows them to show who they are.

How do current artists such as Rihanna and Beyonce influence the current generation? 

For example, Beyonce's song Run The World (Girls) can be seen as a very sexist song as it represents females to be more dominant over the world and connotes how they rule over males and over this world. It gets the younger generation of girls to feel better about themselves so say that they are just as or more important than men. The way that they are made to feel more powerful may make young females to feel better about themselves against situations such as bullying for example. 
Also, Rihanna's song Diamonds is a 'feel-good' song not just for the female gender, unlike Beyonce, but also for the male gender. Lyrics such as 'You and I, we're beautiful like diamonds in the sky' make the listeners of the song feel beautiful and the phrase 'You and I' shows how Rihanna is making a direct mode of address to each of her listeners individually and making them feel better about themselves and more confident. Furthermore, the fact that this song is also very well known in the media may mean that a lot of people may dislike this song and may make memes and may Twitter bomb about this which would be a potential downfall for the sales of 'Diamonds'.

Social networking

• Networks such as Facebook and Twitter are used daily.
• This sites would be easy in order to raise awareness about the media.
• Films and campaigns can be advertised on the side of these networks.
• Could be used to help promote TV shows or Films etc.
• Creates a certain type of 'buzz' about something new out e.g. a movie. Reviews can be made on sites such as YouTube or Twitter; Twitter bombing can make a negative impact on views of new out-coming movies as people may believe one person's opinion on a movie and may change the sales and the overall profits of the movie.

How do Social Networks such as Facebook and Twitter raise awareness of the current media?

Current news flows through the media very quickly due to these social networks. For example, the news of Kim Kardashians baby flowing.

Filmotography

• Films affect peoples beliefs in certain things and change their perspectives in order to act in a certain way. E.g. The movie Chucky influenced young children to kill a young baby being a negative impact.
• Piracy would have a large impact upon the sales of the films as this method is used by many and is simple and easy.
• Word of mouth may be generated which could be either positive or negative e.g. Twitter bombing which changes views and opinions upon a certain film due to one review.
• Movies are strictly for entertainment purposes and allows different audiences for different films in order to escape. E.g. Paranormal Activity engages its audience within the storyline and what is going on in order to captivate them and allow them to escape from their current location to making it seem as if they are a pert of the movie.
